Fabrication is a broad term used to covermany aspects ofmanufacturing. As applied in this chapter, the term fabrication encompasses those operations and procedures used to assemble the individual components of a vessel to create the vessel as a whole. Chapter 1 describes the process of producing a pressure vessel, from identification of need through receiving inspection at the user’s facility. It is written at a fairly high level. Other chapters provide detailed discussions of specific operations and processes, such as the production of a rolled shell in Chapter 4 and welding processes in Chapter 7.
