It has been my great privilege to serve as Editor of the ASME Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology (JPVT) from 1993 to 2005. The JPVT, the technical voice of the Pressure Vessels and Piping (PVP) Division, has been rated by the ASME Board of Editors, “As the leader in its field.” Certainly, this success is a great tribute to all the Associate Editors who served the Journal over the past .
During that period, we instituted a series of special editions dealing with advances in PVP technology. Specialty topics provided the highest-quality research on the design, fabrication, construction, inspection, operation, failure analysis, pressure vessels, piping, pumps, valves, and other pressure-bearing components, as well as the nondestructive evaluation of critical components and in-service inspection through nondestructive evaluation applications.
My gratitude goes to the PVP Technical Committees for their contributions in developing topics dealing with design and analysis, seismic, advances in materials technology, nondestructive topics, and computer technology.
I am grateful to the members of the Executive Committee of the PVP Division for their trust and continued support over the years.
Special thanks to my assistant, Diane Bierly, who made my job easy by her dedication in the production of the Journal, her communication skills with authors, and her outstanding contributions in the development of ASME webtools.
The support and guidance of ASME staff: Philip DiVietro, Cynthia Clark, Beth Darchi, and to retired Connie Monahan and Lynn Rosenfeld is greatly appreciated.
On July 1, 2005, the editorial process will be handed over to Dr. Otto Widera, who was past editor as well as current Associate Editor. The Journal will continue to prosper under his leadership.
